La Serenísima was established in 1929 by Antonio Mastellone, a Sardinian cheese maker who arrived in Argentina in 1925. Antonio and his brother Giuseppe founded Hermanos Mastellone in General Rodriguez, Buenos Aires, in 1927. La Serenísima became the first company in Argentina to provide nutritional information on each product. They are the pioneers of lactose-free milk in the country, since 1984, and became the market leader in the sale of yogurt and introduced cultured milk in 1988. La Serenísima also introduced large-scale organic dairy farming in Argentina, in 1944, and were the first to fortify their products with iron sulfate.
